At The Retreat Salon and Day Spa, your safety and well-being are our highest priorities. When you walk through our doors for a pedicure or spa service, you're not just coming in for relaxation — you're placing your trust in our care. We take that seriously, and we’d love to share with you how we maintain strict hygiene and sanitation standards to protect you, our valued clients, from infections like toenail fungus and other foot-related concerns.
Our Commitment to Sanitation
We follow Idaho’s laws and regulations for salon and spa sanitation to the letter — and then go beyond. This means:
Proper disinfection of all tools using EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectants.
Sanitation tablets in our pedicure basins, after every client.
Single-use items (like buffers and files) are never reused — ever.
Technicians thoroughly wash their hands before and after each service.
We sanitize and disinfect all surfaces between every guest.
Our entire team is trained and regularly updated on hygiene protocols to ensure your experience is not just relaxing, but truly safe.
Why It Matters: Toenail Fungus and Other Infections
One of the most common concerns we see in our industry is onychomycosis, or toenail fungus. This is a contagious condition that can be picked up in unsanitary environments — and can be difficult to treat once it takes hold. It can cause nails to become discolored, thickened, brittle, and sometimes painful.
Other infections we aim to prevent include bacterial infections from small cuts, athlete’s foot, and warts caused by viruses. These can easily spread in shared, unclean environments.
What You Can Do to Protect Yourself
Here are a few helpful tips to help you stay healthy — in and out of the salon:
Don’t shave your legs before a pedicure. Shaving can create tiny cuts that increase your risk of infection.
Make sure your nail tech uses clean or disposable tools.
Don’t ignore signs of fungus (discoloration, thick nails, unusual odor) — early treatment is key.
Let us know if you have any cuts, blisters, or health conditions (like diabetes) so we can adjust your service accordingly.
If you’ve recently been diagnosed with a fungal or contagious condition, give us a call — we’ll help you safely reschedule.
When We May Need to Reschedule Your Appointment
In some cases, we may kindly decline to perform a service — not because we don’t care, but because we care so much. According to Idaho’s professional regulations, we cannot legally or ethically perform services on:
Active toenail or foot fungus
Open wounds or visible infections
Contagious skin conditions
Severe foot or nail disorders that may require medical attention
We always want to keep you and other clients safe. If you’re not sure whether you can safely receive a service, we welcome you to call us or send a photo ahead of time — we’ll guide you with compassion and care.
Final Thoughts
Our goal at The Retreat is for every visit to be a rejuvenating experience where you can relax in total confidence. Cleanliness, safety, and integrity are the foundation of everything we do. Thank you for trusting us with your care — and for helping us create a space where wellness and beauty can flourish together.
